The first-ever guide for suicide attempt survivor support groups was created by DiDi Hirsch Mental Health Services, a prominent member of the Lifeline’s national network of crisis centers. Based on DiDi Hirsch’s experience with a peer support group for attempt survivors, the manual guides organizations on safe and effective approaches for facilitating an 8-week support group for suicide attempt survivors.

The group was established by Lifeline Associate Director Shari Sinwelski in 2011, who was then the Associate Director of DiDi Hirsch’s Suicide Prevention Center. The Lifeline’s recommendations for establishing such a group was a strong influence on Didi Hirsch’s decision to establish this group.
